Dell XPS 16 (DA16260) Review: Performance, Design, and Portability Details

Dell’s XPS 16 (DA16260) for 2026 is introduced as a premium mainstream 16-inch laptop model. It is reported to offer Panther Lake performance, class-leading efficiency, and a premium design similar to the 14-inch model.

The laptop features the same SoC as the reviewed 14-inch XPS. This processor is described as being sufficiently fast for day-to-day use and possessing significant multi-core capability for a 25W processor, utilizing a super-efficient 18A compute tile. Graphics are handled by the integrated Intel Arc B390 graphics.

In terms of specifications, the device includes 32GB of RAM, which is paired with Intel-recommended 9.6 Gbps memory. The sole SSD is a Kioxia BG7, a mainstream PCIe 4.0 SSD that operates without a DRAM cache, relying on Host Memory Buffer.

The power system includes a 70-Whr battery, which the reviewer notes is excellent for a thin and light machine. The included power adapter is a 100W GaN unit, allowing the XPS 16 to remain charged when plugged in.

Visually, the XPS 16 is described as a refined and gorgeous machine, featuring an exterior chassis made of aluminum in ‘Magnetite,’ which is characterized as reflective. While some interior elements are plastic, they do not feel cheap.

The primary complaint regarding the hardware is the Input/Output (I/O) selection. The model lacks USB Type-A ports, HDMI, or an RJ-45 jack. Connectivity is limited to three Thunderbolt ports and a combo audio jack, necessitating the use of dongles.

Regarding thermal performance, the system is noted for remaining cool. While the CPU can momentarily reach a higher power draw (65W via PL2), it easily maintains cooling levels when reverting to the sustained 25W PL1, meaning overheating does not pose a reliability issue. The laptop is reported to be remarkably quiet, remaining near-silent under normal usage. Even during power limit testing with Prime95, the fans remained quiet, despite the system being able to force noise.

The XPS 16 features a large and vibrant OLED screen. In comparison to other models, the reviewer states that this system achieves its goals, presenting stellar CPU and GPU performance, an elegant chassis, and excellent laptop sound.
