ASUS Zenbook A16: A Powerful Snapdragon Workstation with OLED Display

The ASUS Zenbook A16 UX3607OA features a Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme processor, utilizing an 18-core architecture built on a 3 nm process. Qualcomm highlights this chip for its high CPU and GPU performance, positioning it as an advancement for heavy multitasking and AI workloads.

The system is powered by an integrated Adreno X2 GPU, which offers improved frame rates compared to previous generations. For gaming compatibility, the laptop includes Windows AVX2 emulation and kernel-level anti-cheat support for titles such as Fortnite. Management of these features is handled through a dedicated Snapdragon Control Panel for profile management, driver updates, and resolution optimizations.

The primary focus of this machine is its Hexagon NPU, providing 80 TOPS of processing power exclusively for local AI tasks. This hardware supports various Copilot+ functions, including real-time translation captions, Paint’s Cocreator, and the interactive “Click to Do” screen overlay. Additionally, ASUS integrates StoryCube software, which leverages the local AI power to automatically sort, tag, and search through media libraries.

Creative workflows are supported by dedicated hardware that handles specialized tasks within optimized creator suites like Adobe. These functions—including AI-driven image upscaling, smart masking, and automated video timeline analysis—are routed directly to the NPU, which ensures a smoother editing experience even when operating away from external power.

The display is a 16-inch 3K ASUS Lumina OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. It offers full sRGB and DCI-P3 color coverage, peaking at an impressive 1100 nits of brightness for HDR content, and approximately 500 nits in SDR mode. For audio, the laptop features a six-speaker system incorporating Dolby Atmos and Snapdragon Sound support.

Connectivity includes two USB4 ports, one Type-A port, an HDMI 2.1 port, and an SD card reader, with sufficient bandwidth to connect up to three external monitors. The device is equipped with a 70 Wh battery that leverages power-saving features like the ultra-low wattage Whisper mode for enhanced efficiency and runtime. It also supports flexible charging via standard USB-C power banks.

Regarding build quality, the chassis utilizes Ceraluminum material in a Zabriskie Beige finish, which provides a smooth, premium feel and masks oily fingerprints. The construction is noted for its rigidity and lack of notable flexing or squeaking. The keyboard features crisp tactile feedback and even backlighting with soft matte keycaps, while the massive touchpad is described as super smooth and silent.

In terms of performance metrics, the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme achieves a multicore score exceeding 1700 points in Cinebench 2024, with a single-core result reaching 151 points. The Adreno X2 GPU shows a substantial performance improvement over its predecessors; however, software compatibility remains an issue, as some modern gaming titles are reported to crash or fail to run properly initially.

The dual fans generate noticeable noise (up to 46 dBA) during the Performance profile when pushing the SoC hard. While other modes are quieter, they operate at reduced system power levels. External temperatures can include a hotspot on the OLED panel peaking at 48°C and warmth in the keyboard’s midsection under load.
