Noctua NF-A14x25 G2 chromax.black Fans Reviewed: A Deep Dive into Stealth Cooling

Noctua’s NF-A14x25 G2 chromax.black fans were received at APH Networks, initially packaged in a folding envelope. The shipment included both single and push-pull sets of the NF-A14x25 G2 PWM chromax.black fans. The chromax.black edition maintains the same physical design and aesthetic as the vanilla version, offering an all-black finish. This stealthier color makes the fans aesthetically complementary to other system components.

Retail packaging was distinct, featuring blacked-out boxes. The single PWM fan was presented in a smaller box, while the push-pull (Sx2-PP) set was shown in a pair. Both packages highlighted features such as the Sterrox liquid-crystal polymer compound construction of the impellers, a highly optimized P/Q curve, and optimizations associated with the second generation of the fan series.

The unboxing revealed comprehensive organization of accessories. Each fan package included multiple rubber paddings (NA-AVP1-LR), rubber anti-vibration mounts (NA-AV2), mounting screws, a NA-RC16 low noise adapter, a 30cm NA-EC1 extension cable, and an NA-YC1 4-pin PWM splitter cable. A paper ring was placed between the fan blade and the frame for protection during transit and must be removed before use.

Internally, the Noctua NF-A14x25 G2 PWM chromax.black utilizes Noctua’s SSO2 bearings, a refined version of fluid dynamic bearings. This bearing type places the magnet closer to the rotor axis, aiming to improve stability, precision, and durability. The fan boasts a mean time to failure of 150,000 hours.

In terms of performance, the single PWM fan operates at a maximum speed of 1500RPM. The two-pack Sx2-PP fans operate at 1475RPM and 1525RPM, respectively, which is claimed to reduce harmonic noise when used in a push-pull configuration. All fans achieve 91.58CFM airflow, 24.8dBA noise, and 2.56mmH2O air pressure at maximum speed.

The fans are noted for their ability to deliver performance while minimizing noise, ensuring air movement without excessive noise levels. The chromax.black series is presented as a reliable, well-engineered cooling solution suitable for various applications, including system cases and radiators.

At the time of the review, the single NF-A14x25 G2 PWM chromax.black fan was priced at $45, and the two-pack NF-A14x25 G2 PWM Sx2-PP chromax.black was $85. Both the original and chromax.black versions are currently available at the same price point.
