Kingston introduces the latest refreshed IronKey Locker+ 50 G2 USB Flash drive, positioning it as an enterprise-grade solution for secure data storage. The device provides robust protection features, including FIPS 197 certified AES 256-bit hardware-encryption in XTS mode. Furthermore, it incorporates safeguards against common threats such as BadUSB and brute force password attacks. The LP50 G2 also holds TAA compliance.
Beyond its core encryption capabilities, the updated model features a redesigned modern casing. It supports a multi-password structure, allowing for separate Admin and User passwords. Users have flexibility in setting their passwords, choosing between Complex mode (passwords of 6–16 characters using 3 out of 4 character sets) or Passphrase mode (PINs, sentences, lists of words, or lyrics from 10 to 64 characters).
For enhanced security, the Admin can enable or reset the User password. The drive includes a built-in virtual keyboard and an anti-fingerprint coating, features designed to prevent passwords from being compromised by keyloggers or screenloggers. To further assist with access, an ‘eye’ symbol can be enabled to reveal the typed password, which reduces login errors.
The device implements stringent security measures for failed logins. Brute force attack protection will lock out the User after 10 consecutive incorrect password entries. Critically, if the Admin password is entered incorrectly 10 times, the drive will crypto-erase itself.
Setup and usability are designed to be straightforward, requiring no application installation, as all necessary software and security features are pre-loaded onto the drive. The IronKey Locker+ 50 G2 is compatible with both Windows and macOS operating systems, ensuring file access across multiple systems. Additionally, its metal casing and integrated key loop make it portable and convenient to carry sensitive data.
While the initial cost of the 256GB USB Encrypted Flash Drive is reported around $173.99, the manufacturer backs the product with a 5-year warranty and free support. Kingston asserts that the device effectively balances high quality and ease of use with comprehensive data security, making it a well-designed portable storage solution ideal for both home and business users requiring protection from unauthorized access.
