Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold Analysis: A Well-Built Foldable with Compromises

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold offers excellent cameras and class-leading wireless charging. However, its heavy, wonky design, mediocre performance, and reduced battery capacity make it difficult to recommend over sleeker rivals.

Two smartphones, one standard and one foldable, are displayed side-by-side on a wooden table.
A standard smartphone and a foldable phone are placed next to each other on a textured wooden surface.

The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold is positioned as a capable and well-built foldable device, though reviewers note it continues a design formula that appears dated compared to faster rivals.

The phone carries a price tag of £1,799 or $1,899, an increase of £50/$100 over the predecessor, which the source attributes to rising memory costs.

Design-wise, the device maintains a taller, narrower shape consistent with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. This shape keeps the 6.5-inch outer display functional like a standard phone when closed, a trait frequently praised by reviewers.

At 10.1mm folded and 239g, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is slightly thinner and lighter than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. However, it remains noticeably bulkier than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Honor Magic V6.

A specific design quirk involves one half of the phone being slightly thinner than the other, creating a visible ridge when open. The inner display crease is also more evident compared to some key rivals, even after a redesigned hinge.

Despite these flaws, the build quality uses premium materials claimed by Google to be three times stronger, and the unit carries a full IP68 dust and water resistance rating. The Olive color option has received praise for its attractive appearance.

Display upgrades are focused on brightness, with both the 6.4-inch cover screen and the 8-inch inner screen now reaching 3,600 nits from the previous 2,700 nits, making them better for outdoor use.

The 8-inch inner screen features a square aspect ratio, which is excellent for running two applications side by side but creates thick black borders when viewing video content.

Camera performance represents a key strength. While the phone uses the same 48MP main, 10.8MP 5x telephoto, and 10.5MP ultrawide array, the main sensor itself is a 1/1.56-inch unit, significantly larger than before. This change improves low-light performance and enables shorter shutter speeds at night.

Google’s software capabilities, including Add Me, Camera Coach, and the new Magic Capture, are highlighted as advanced compared to other phone manufacturers. Trusted Reviews suggests the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is arguably the easiest foldable to simply point and shoot with.

For performance, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold operates on the Tensor G6 chip, which is sufficient for everyday tasks, multitasking, and AI tools, though it does not constitute a raw gaming powerhouse.

RAM capacity is 16GB, which assists with multitasking operations. Running Android 17, the software experience offers a smooth and visually cohesive interface. Google’s multitasking implementation is intuitive, supporting two apps side by side plus floating app bubbles.

Battery life, while concerning on paper due to a smaller 4,806mAh cell, receives support from the Tensor G6 chip, which Google claims is 20% more efficient. In practice, the phone delivers all-day battery life.

The device supports 30W wired charging and offers 25W Qi2.2 wireless charging, a feature noted as rare among foldables.

Overall, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is presented as a polished and well-equipped foldable. However, its combination of a heavy and somewhat awkward design, moderate performance, and diminished battery capacity makes it difficult to recommend over sleeker, faster rivals like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.
