FSP Expands MEGA Series With Gold-Rated MEGA GM 1000 PSU

FSP has expanded its top-of-the-line MEGA Series power supply units with the introduction of the Gold-rated MEGA GM lineup. The new series aims to meet the demands of mainstream gamers, workstation users, and content creators. The MEGA GM is available in three wattage variants: 1200W, 1000W, and 850W.

The MEGA Series represents FSP’s “Ultimate Performance” tier. It currently features the MEGA TI, which provides Platinum-level efficiency, alongside the newly detailed MEGA GM, which offers Gold-level efficiency. The 1000W variant, the FSP MEGA GM 1000, is priced at $199.99 and is positioned for enthusiasts seeking stable power delivery and premium features. The unit includes a 10-year warranty, matching the standard for leading Gold-rated power supplies.

In terms of design, FSP utilized embossed cables rather than the sleeved cables commonly found in premium tiers. The company notes that embossed cables offer greater flexibility since they lack an extra outer sleeving layer, allowing for easier routing during installation. This design choice also accommodates the growing enthusiast trend of using third-party cable extensions, such as the LIAN LI Strimer ARGB series, for visual customization.

The power supply housing features a silver fan grille intended to provide a distinct look compared to conventional designs. FSP also incorporated outward-facing locking mechanisms for the cable connectors. This layout makes connecting and disconnecting cables more convenient, especially for troubleshooting when the power supply is installed inside a computer case.

During performance testing, the FSP MEGA GM 1000 delivered consistent power, with all major rails (+12V, +5V, and +3.3V) showing a slight positive voltage bias above their nominal values. For example, the +12V rail consistently stayed above 12.00V with no observable droop under load. The +12V rails supplying critical components like EPS, PCIe, and 12V-2×6 showed less than or equal to 1.5% variance under load.

The unit exhibited tighter regulation on actively loaded rails compared to unpopulated ones. Additionally, the power supply avoids pigtail connectors in favor of dedicated cables, which helps reduce voltage drop and improves stability under high current draw. Meanwhile, the +12V rail on MOLEX and SATA cables showed slightly looser regulation at approximately 2%, reflecting their lower design priority and lighter load requirements.

The MEGA GM 1000 includes an Eco semi-fanless mode controlled by a physical on/off switch. This feature provides users with full control over the fan profile, an uncommon addition for Gold-rated units and a capability not present in alternative models like the ENERMAX REVOLUTION III S 1000W or the SAMA G1000. Finally, the FSP MEGA GM 1000 package includes extras such as cable combs, a cable storage bag, and a 24-pin jumper tester to enhance the out-of-box experience.
