The FSP MEGA PM 1200W is an ATX 3.1 power supply presented as a display of in-house engineering. The unit offers 1200 W of continuous power housed within an unusually compact 150 mm chassis. This size is noteworthy for a unit of this capacity.

The power supply adheres to both ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 standards. It carries certifications including 80 PLUS Platinum and Cybenetics Platinum. Electrical output includes a single +12V rail rated at 100 A, which handles the full 1200 W. The +3.3V and +5V rails are each rated at 20 A, providing a combined 120 W across both. A separate +5VSB rail supplies 3 A or 15 W.

Internally, the design incorporates several high-grade components. The unit uses 105°C Japanese capacitors, Infineon CoolMOS Superjunction MOSFETs, and CoolSiC silicon-carbide technology. Heat management features include robust heat spreaders and heavy-duty MOSFETs. For protection, the PCB is treated with a conformal coating. This feature is marketed by FSP for protection against dust, stains, and wetness, allowing operation in up to 95% relative humidity, a capability typically reserved for server or flagship models.

Voltage stability features are also emphasized. FSP employs Micro Tolerance Load Control (MTLC) technology, which claims voltage regulation down to ±1%. The unit’s ripple suppression was described as exceptional across all operational rails. Under a full 100% load test, the 12V rail settled precisely at 12.00 V, even when accounting for cable resistance.

Connectivity requires the native 12V-2×6 connector. This feature allows the PSU to handle top-tier graphics cards and aggressive power requirements without needing adapters. The design is fully modular. The included accessory bundle is extensive, containing a zipped cable case, Velcro wraps, clear cable combs, thumb screws, and a dedicated PSU testing key. Users should note that the individually textured cables can be tedious to manage.

Cooling utilizes a 135 mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing fan. This fan features semi-passive operation, meaning it completely stops at loads below 50%, maintaining silence during idle or low-to-medium workloads. When running at full load, the fan was observed never exceeding 1,000 RPM. Although one minor glitch occurred during the initial 100% load test—where the fan failed to spin up—toggling the ECO switch and power-cycling resolved the issue.

Efficiency performance varied depending on the test conditions. At 230 V in real-world testing, the unit’s efficiency performed closer to a Gold rating than Platinum. However, Cybenetics testing confirmed Platinum-level efficiency ratings at both 115 V (89.897%) and 230 V (92.001%). FSP claims the unit operates at least 92% efficiency during typical load conditions.

The FSP MEGA PM 1200W is positioned as a compelling choice for builders who prioritize engineered reliability. Its strengths include the compact chassis, industrial-grade conformal coating, superior ripple suppression, and stable voltage regulation. Potential drawbacks noted are the cable management friction and the efficiency metric falling slightly short of a pure Platinum rating at 230 V. Given FSP’s in-house manufacturing and direct sales model, the unit is offered at an aggressive price point for those demanding proven stability and durability.
