Valkyrie has expanded its footprint in the PC component market with the introduction of the Surge SL125, a high-performance CPU air cooler. Known primarily for their liquid cooling solutions, the company’s venture into air cooling aims to deliver premium aesthetics and competitive thermal management for modern desktop processors.
The Surge SL125 utilizes a single-tower design equipped with a dual-fan push-pull configuration. This structural approach is engineered to maximize airflow through the heatsink while maintaining a compact enough footprint to avoid interfering with adjacent motherboard components.
At the core of the cooler’s thermal extraction capabilities are six 6mm copper heat pipes. These pipes interface with a precision-machined copper cold plate, ensuring efficient heat transfer from the CPU heat spreader up into the dense aluminum fin stack.
Airflow is driven by two of Valkyrie’s proprietary X12 120mm PWM fans. These fans utilize Fluid Dynamic Bearings (FDB) designed for longevity and consistent acoustic profiles, pushing a high volume of air through the single-tower array.
To simplify cable management, the X12 fans feature a daisy-chainable connection system. This allows builders to route a single PWM and ARGB cable to the motherboard, significantly reducing clutter within the PC chassis.
A major focus of the Surge SL125 is its visual design and customization options. The cooler features addressable RGB (ARGB) lighting integrated directly into the fans, allowing users to synchronize the illumination with other system components.
Beyond the lighting, Valkyrie includes swappable magnetic top covers in the packaging. This unique feature enables PC builders to alter the aesthetic appearance of the cooler’s top profile, catering to different thematic builds and personal preferences.
Hardware compatibility is robust, with mounting hardware provided for current-generation processor platforms. The cooler natively supports Intel’s LGA 1700, 1200, and 115x sockets, alongside AMD’s AM4 and AM5 platforms.
Thanks to its single-tower structure, the Surge SL125 offers excellent memory clearance. Users can install tall, RGB-illuminated memory modules without facing the physical obstruction issues commonly associated with massive dual-tower air coolers.
In terms of thermal performance, the Surge SL125 competes closely with larger dual-tower coolers on the market. The aggressive fan curve and optimized fin density allow it to tame high-TDP processors effectively under heavy synthetic and gaming workloads.
The acoustic performance presents a balance between cooling power and noise. While the cooler remains quiet during idle and moderate workloads, the dual 120mm fans can generate noticeable noise when ramping up to their maximum rotational speeds to handle extreme thermal loads.
Valkyrie presents the Surge SL125 in premium packaging, emphasizing an unboxing experience that matches the cooler’s high-end market positioning. The inclusion of high-quality thermal paste and well-organized mounting accessories reflects this premium approach.
Overall, the Valkyrie Surge SL125 enters the competitive air-cooling market as a compelling option for PC enthusiasts. It balances robust thermal dissipation, extensive socket compatibility, and highly customizable aesthetics in a single-tower form factor.
