Review: IQUNIX MQ80 Low-Profile Keyboard Delivers Premium Performance

The mechanical keyboard market remains a strong sector, offering highly customizable DIY paths and ready-to-use bespoke options. The MQ80 from IQUNIX is a low-profile aluminum mechanical keyboard that is presented as a flagship product.

Upon receiving the MQ80, the packaging was noted as being different from typical brick-and-mortar products. Instead of flashy box, the keyboard arrived in a sturdy carrying case covered in a textured black fabric. This case features a muted IQUNIX logo and nameplate, with a single zipper covering three-quarters of the sides for unobstructed access. A simple nylon carrying strap was also included.

In addition to the keyboard, IQUNIX provided several accessories, including a basic keyboard layout and instruction card for key combo settings. The package also contained a small accessory pouch holding a keycap puller, switch puller, dusting brush, stickers, and an information manual.

When assessing the MQ80, the review highlighted its build quality as top-notch. The foundation is provided by a CNC-machined aluminum base, complemented by multi-layer sound dampening. Further enhancing the experience are the Gold Red Kailh switches and PBT keycaps. The design is described as subtle and professional, suitable for both home and office use.

The MQ80’s form factor is an 80% layout, which the review noted is advantageous for users who prefer a smaller keyboard profile while still retaining Function keys, arrow keys, and most formatting keys. Connectivity is flexible, allowing the keyboard to connect via wired, 2.4GHz wireless, and Bluetooth 5.1.

Priced at $171.99, the MQ80 aligns with the price point of previous IQUNIX keyboards with similar features, suggesting that the ‘flagship’ designation does not equate to an added cost. The MQ80 received a perfect score, earning a 10 out of 10 and the Recommended Award.
