The gaming industry is currently facing a wave of product delays and price hikes driven by memory shortages and increasing component costs. These challenges are significantly impacting current-generation gaming consoles.
Information from a retail source, shared by leaker @GyoJvfr on X, indicates that PlayStation hardware is set to receive significant, steeper price increases in the near future.
According to the leaked information, the impending price hikes will affect the entire lineup of current PlayStation hardware. This includes the various console models as well as peripherals like the PlayStation Portal.
The PlayStation 5 Slim is reportedly slated for a €100 price jump. Its retail price is expected to rise from €549.99 to €649.99.
The higher-end PlayStation 5 Pro is also expected to see a €100 increase. This adjustment will bring its cost from €799.99 up to €899.99.
Additionally, the PlayStation Portal streaming device will not be exempt from the adjustments. Its price is projected to increase from €219.99 to €249.99.
While the leaker did not provide specific details regarding the PlayStation 5 Digital Slim Edition, it is presumed that this model will also receive a similar €100 price increase. It remains unclear exactly how widespread these specific price adjustments will be across different regions, though recent hardware price increases within the industry have been global in scope.
The PlayStation 5, which has been on the market for nearly six years, is no stranger to price adjustments. The console has already experienced two distinct price hikes since its initial launch. The first of these increases was announced on August 25, 2022, when both the disc and digital editions of the console received a €50 price hike. This 2022 increase brought the PS5 Disc Edition from €499.99 to €549.99, and the PS5 Digital Edition moved from €399.99 to €449.99.
More recently, on April 13, 2025, the PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition experienced another €50 increase, bringing the console’s cost up to €499.99. The PS5 Digital Disc Edition was also noted to be receiving two €50 price increases in 2025.
The current international climate and an ongoing crisis involving memory and storage components lend credibility to the possibility of these new price hikes. If these reported price changes are confirmed, the PlayStation 5 Slim disc edition at €649.99 would become more expensive than Microsoft’s Xbox Series X, which currently retails for €599.99.
