Apple has officially designated the iPhone X and the 15-inch MacBook Pro (from 2018) as obsolete products. This decision was reported by multiple technology news outlets on August 14, 2026.
Apple uses the term “obsolete” to classify devices that have been discontinued for more than seven years. When a product receives this designation, Apple and its authorized service providers cease offering hardware repairs or supplying replacement parts for the device.
For the iPhone X, originally launched in 2017, its move to “obsolete” marks the official end of its hardware service lifecycle. The device, which was a landmark smartphone and the first to feature a bezel-less design and Face ID, had previously been listed as “vintage” around July 2024.
The classification does not mean that existing iPhone X units will stop functioning immediately. The device’s functionality and installed software, including iOS, remain unaffected. However, users who experience hardware failures will no longer have access to official repair support.
The iPhone X was notable for introducing the “notch” into the display, pioneering an era of nearly bezel-less iPhones. The listing also reports that the iPhone X, being nearly nine years old, does not receive new versions of iOS.
Consequently, while the phone remains functional, users are advised that it is likely time to upgrade to a newer model.
