ADATA has released the SD820 Portable Solid State Drive, a new storage solution designed for a variety of users. The drive offers broad compatibility across multiple platforms, functioning seamlessly with PCs, Macs, consoles, and mobile devices.
The SD820 is available in three different storage capacities to meet varying user needs. Customers can choose between 1000GB, 2000GB, and 4000GB models. Additionally, the drive is offered in two color options: Blue and Grey.
Designed with portability in mind, the drive features a small and lightweight physical footprint. It measures 71.3 by 39 by 13.65 millimeters, or 2.81 by 1.54 by 0.54 inches. The total weight of the device is just 26.5 grams, or 0.93 ounces, making it easy to carry anywhere.
The drive connects via a USB 3.2 Gen2 x2 interface, which supports USB 20Gbps speeds. It also maintains backward compatibility with older USB 2.0 connections.
Performance testing shows that the drive reaches its maximum rated speeds during operation. The SD820 is capable of both sequential read and sequential write speeds of up to 2,000 MB/s without running into any issues.
Durability is a key aspect of the SD820’s design. The solid state drive is ruggedized and features an IP68 rating, which provides protection against both water and dust. This makes the drive suitable for use out in the field.
Operating system compatibility for the ADATA SD820 is extensive. The drive works with Windows 8, 8.1, 10, and 11, as well as MacOS 10.6 or later. It is also compatible with Linux Kernel 2.6 or later and Android 13 or later.
The portable solid state drive comes with a USB cable included in the package. The length of this cable has been noted as being slightly long for laptop users, though it is often preferred when connecting the drive to a desktop PC.
One detail to note regarding the user experience is the absence of additional software. ADATA does not include any companion applications or backup software with the purchase of this drive.
