The XMG Neo 16 (A25) is a compact high-end powerhouse that provides desktop-class performance without the bulk of an 18-inch laptop. It stands out in the market with its unique ability to attach an external water cooler, offering high power with a manageable footprint.
This laptop is powered by AMD processors. The default chip is the Ryzen 9 9955HX, which is paired with a 140 W RTX 5070 Ti. An optional Ryzen 9 9955HX3D is available for pairing with a 175 W RTX 5080 or 5090. This upgraded processor includes an additional 64 MB of 3D V-Cache to boost frame rates and prevent CPU bottlenecks at sub-4K resolutions.
Buyers have two display options, both operating at a 1600p resolution with a 300 Hz refresh rate. The base model features an IPS panel with a non-glare coating and full sRGB gamut coverage. The optional Mini LED screen adds higher maximum brightness, HDR support, and full DCI-P3 color coverage.
Cooling is managed by a massive internal thermal system featuring a third fan specifically for the memory modules. Performance and clock speeds can be pushed further using the OASIS external water cooler. This plug-and-play solution unleashes the power limits and frequencies of both the CPU and GPU while operating at much quieter noise levels.
The laptop’s build consists of a rigid, premium metal chassis with a lid that opens to a flat 180 degrees. The keyboard offers per-key RGB customization, N-key rollover, anti-ghosting, a dedicated NumPad, and deep travel. A smooth, precise glass touchpad completes the interface, alongside capable dual speakers that provide clear vocals and decent bass.
Storage and memory are highly upgradable. The system supports up to 96 GB of DDR5 RAM and 16 TB of SSD storage. It includes one Gen 5 NVMe slot and one Gen 4 NVMe slot, both shielded by a metal plate with thermal pads. The RAM slots are actively cooled by the bottom fan and a perforated metal cap. A replaceable Wi-Fi 6E card is also included.
When testing the CPU, the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D reaches nearly 3.90 GHz during non-stop 3D rendering with the water cooler attached, and maintains a high 3.63 GHz when disconnected. The GeForce RTX 5090 laptop GPU hits 2151 MHz in long gaming sessions while staying at 65 °C and 46 dBA with the OASIS unit. Without the water cooler, the GPU maintains 2070 MHz at 81 °C and 51 dBA.
Thermal management keeps external temperatures reasonable. High heat is kept away from the screen, palm rests, and WASD keys, with the center of the keyboard peaking at 49 °C. An “Enthusiast” preset drops the noise to 42 dBa while keeping the GPU running at a steady 150 W.
A massive 99.9 Wh battery provides power on the go. Utilizing the iGPU-only mode, the machine achieves over six hours of 4K video playback without being plugged into a wall outlet.
The port selection includes five USB ports, an Ethernet port, and a full-size card reader, allowing for up to four external displays with FreeSync support. However, all three Type-A ports are limited to 5 Gbps, and the two Type-C ports are limited to 10 Gbps, lacking USB4 or Thunderbolt support, though they do include DisplayPort and 100/140 W Power Delivery.
