In the economy of 2026, affordability has emerged as a primary concern for consumers. Surging demand and the rapid uptake of AI technology have caused RAM and GPU prices to skyrocket. To address these rising hardware costs, manufacturers are re-introducing older technology, such as DDR4 memory and previous-generation motherboards, back into the market.
ASRock is navigating this market environment by continuing its tradition of releasing budget-friendly components. The company has introduced the ASRock B860 Challenger WiFi White, a low-cost motherboard designed for both gamers and home users seeking an all-white aesthetic for their PC builds.
The B860 Challenger features a trimmed-down 10+1+1 Power Phase Design paired with Dr.MOS. For thermal management, the board is equipped with several aluminum heatsinks covering the VRMs, MOSFETs, and chipset, providing adequate cooling and efficient heat dissipation despite a non-flashy appearance.
Performance testing was conducted using an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K processor. The test system also included 48GB of V-Color Manta XFinity RGB DDR5-8000 memory, a PNY CS3250 2TB PCIE Gen5 NMVe SSD, and a GeForce RTX 4080 Super graphics card.
Benchmark results demonstrated stable performance across various software suites. In Cinebench 2024, the setup achieved 2,324 points in the multi-core test and 134 points in the single-core test. The system also scored 12,270 in PCMark 10 and 17,723 in PassMark 11.
In multimedia and artificial intelligence tasks, the Procyon Video Editing Benchmark returned a score of 56,191, while the AI Computer Vision Benchmark resulted in a score of 208.
Graphics and gaming benchmark tests yielded solid numbers as well. 3DMark Steel Nomad and Speedway reported scores of 6,813 and 7,665, respectively. Additionally, Port Royal recorded a score of 18,656, and Timespy reached 27,203.
In terms of storage, the motherboard is equipped with four SATA ports. It features one Blazing M.2 PCIE Gen5 slot with a quick-release tool-less design, alongside two Hyper M.2 PCIE Gen4 slots for solid-state drives.
Expansion capabilities on the board consist of one PCIE 5.0 x16 slot with reinforced steel and one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot.
Connectivity options include a total of 16 USB ports, split between nine on the rear and seven on the front. Networking and wireless features comprise WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and Dragon 2.5 Gigabit LAN. The board also supports 7.1 HD Nahimic audio, Polychrome RGB, and SignalRGB.
The rear I/O panel houses the WiFi 7 antenna ports, an HDMI output, one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C port, six USB 3.2 Gen1 ports (including two Lightning Gaming Ports), two USB 2.0 ports, the 2.5Gb LAN port, a BIOS Flashback button, and HD audio jacks.
Targeted primarily at the budget-friendly mainstream market, the ASRock B860 Challenger WiFi White omits certain high-end enthusiast features. However, it offsets these omissions through its balance of performance and competitive pricing.
