TikTok Gears Up for First-Ever US Awards Show: The TikTok Awards

TikTok is making a significant push into mainstream entertainment with the announcement of its first-ever TikTok Awards show in the United States. The event is slated for December 18 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, kicking off live at 9 PM ET. Naturally, the entire ceremony will be livestreamed on the TikTok platform, with the streaming service Tubi offering on-demand viewing the following day.

The awards ceremony is structured to celebrate the creators and content that define the platform’s culture. Major categories include “Creator of the Year” and “Video of the Year,” alongside specialized honors like “Breakthrough Artist of the Year” and the somewhat ambiguous “Muse of the Year,” which has already secured a nomination for celebrity and media personality Paris Hilton.

The list of nominees largely comprises various internet influencers and content creators. The event appears intentionally apolitical, focusing instead on popular cultural and lifestyle content. Nominated clips exemplify this trend, with examples ranging from a fashion influencer showcasing unique finds to a viral recipe for “Homemade Dubai Chocolate.”

Emphasizing user engagement, TikTok is handing over the selection process to its community. Users will be able to cast votes for their favorite creators and videos starting on November 18 through a dedicated voting portal launched directly within the platform.

The event itself is being positioned as a large-scale, traditional gala. Attendees can expect all the familiar elements of a major awards show, including a red carpet, a live audience, and several live performances. This emphasis on a formal, in-person ceremony stands in sharp contrast to the recently announced Instagram Ring awards, which opted for a non-live event where accolades are simply mailed to recipients.

While this marks the debut of a US-based awards ceremony, TikTok is not new to hosting such events. The social media company has successfully launched similar awards shows in several other international markets, including Germany, Mexico, and Korea, over the past few years, signaling a proven model for celebrating its global creator community.
