LG OLED65G6: Testing LG’s Brightest and Most Improved Picture-Quality TV Yet

LG has released the OLED65G6 model, positioning it as its brightest OLED television to date and a significant effort in its 2026 TV line-up. The device introduces the Hyper Radiant Colour Tech 2nd Gen panel of the Primary RGB OLED panel.

The company is making a strong commitment to the OLED format, challenging rivals who focus on Mini LED and RGB TVs due to their high brightness or wider color range in bright rooms. LG asserts that OLED remains superior in picture quality.

In terms of design, the G6 series maintains familiar features; the stand adjusts for low or high orientation, allowing placement either on the floor or supporting a soundbar. The TV incorporates LG’s Vanta Black Anti-Reflective coating to help reduce reflections and maintain black levels even in brighter environments.

The webOS interface remains responsive and streamlined, offering access to major platforms like Disney+, Netflix, and Apple TV alongside local UK catch-up services. However, all app accessing now requires an LG account, a change noted by the reviewer.

For gaming enthusiasts, the G6 OLED provides quick input lag at 12.9ms, with all four HDMI 2.1 inputs supporting ALLM, VRR, and 4K/120Hz. PC gamers can benefit from a boosted 165Hz refresh rate via both AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync. The TV also supports Dolby Vision Gaming (4K/120Hz) and the HGIG standard.

The G6 utilizes LG’s Primary RGB Tandem panels for the second year, enhancing brightness with its Hyper Radiant Colour Tech and Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen3, boosting peak brightness by 3.9 times. While handling HDR content well, the reviewer noted that Dolby Vision x Filmmaker mode does not properly compensate for ambient light in bright rooms.

The visual performance remains high; watching Blu-ray content showed that the LG uncovers more detail and sharpness compared to competing models.

In sound, while the G6 carries more bass and a warmer tone than its predecessor (the G5), its highs have dulled. The built-in system requires boosting to achieve impact, and AI Sound Pro can make stereo programming sound harsh. Standard mode is recommended unless utilizing a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

The overall assessment praises the LG G6 OLED for delivering accurate but great-looking HDR images, being brighter, slightly more colorful, and punchier than previous models. However, the report also points out that while RGB Mini LEDs are brighter, they do not match the contrast and black level control of OLED at present.
