1. Information We Collect
FlickrSyncr accesses photos and videos stored on your device solely for the purpose of uploading them to your Flickr account. We also store your Flickr OAuth tokens securely on your device to maintain your authenticated session.
The app displays banner advertisements served by Google AdMob to support continued development. When you choose to allow tracking on iOS (App Tracking Transparency prompt), AdMob may access your Advertising Identifier (IDFA) to serve personalised ads. When you decline, AdMob serves non-personalised, contextual ads only. On Android, the equivalent identifier is the Google Advertising ID (GAID), which can be reset or disabled from your device settings.
When no AdMob advertisement is available, the app may show its own informational panels in the same banner space (for example, a link to the developer’s website or a voluntary donation page). These panels are built into the app; if a panel image is configured remotely, it is downloaded from the configured web host as a standard image request, which — like any web request — exposes your IP address to that host. Tapping a panel opens the linked website (such as windows-hq.com or paypal.com) in your browser. No tracking identifiers are attached to these panels and no interaction data is collected by us.
We do not collect, transmit, or store any other personal data on external servers. All other data remains on your device and your Flickr account.
2. How We Use Your Information
Your photos and videos are read from local storage or the device photo library and uploaded directly to Flickr’s servers using their official API. File hashes (MD5) are computed locally to detect duplicates and prevent re-uploading. These hashes are stored in a local database and as machine tags on your Flickr photos.
The Advertising Identifier (when you authorise tracking) is shared with Google AdMob to measure ad performance and serve more relevant ads. We do not receive or store this identifier ourselves.
3. Third-Party Services
- Flickr (flickr.com) — your uploads, album management, and account queries are handled through Flickr’s public API using OAuth 1.0a authentication. Refer to Flickr’s Privacy Policy for how they handle your data.
- Google AdMob — serves the banner ads shown at the bottom of the app. AdMob may collect device information, ad interaction data, and (with your consent) your Advertising Identifier. Refer to Google’s Privacy & Terms and the AdMob Partners list for details.
- Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) — for users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, the app presents Google’s UMP consent form on first launch to collect GDPR consent before any ads serve. Your consent choices are stored by UMP and can be reviewed or revoked through the consent options shown to you.
- Firebase (Google) — the app uses several Firebase services to keep the app reliable and improve it over time:
- Crashlytics collects diagnostic information when the app crashes (device model, OS version, app state, stack traces) so we can fix bugs. No photo content is included.
- Analytics records anonymised usage events (which screens are viewed, which features are used) and a per-installation identifier. This data is not linked to your Flickr account.
- Performance Monitoring measures network and app-rendering performance from real devices to identify slow paths.
- Remote Config delivers small configuration values to the app (for example, the ability to disable the ads slot remotely if needed). Only configuration is downloaded; nothing is sent up.
Firebase data is processed by Google. Refer to Firebase’s Privacy & Security page for details on retention and data handling.
4. Data Storage & Security
OAuth tokens are stored using platform-secure storage (Keychain on iOS, EncryptedSharedPreferences on Android). Upload history and settings are stored in a local SQLite database on your device. No personal data is sent to any server other than Flickr and Google AdMob (as described in §1–§3).
5. Permissions
The app requests access to your photo library to discover and upload media. Network access is required to communicate with Flickr and to load advertisements. Notification permission is used to show upload progress.
On iOS 14 and later, the App Tracking Transparency prompt asks whether the app may track you across apps and websites. Granting permission allows Google AdMob to use your Advertising Identifier for personalised ads; denying limits AdMob to contextual (non-personalised) ads only. The app functions identically either way.
All permissions can be revoked at any time through your device settings.
6. Data Deletion
You can disconnect your Flickr account at any time from Settings, which removes your OAuth tokens from the device. Uninstalling the app removes all local data including upload history and settings. Uploads already on Flickr must be managed through Flickr directly.
To opt out of personalised ads after granting consent, revoke the tracking permission on iOS (Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking) or reset / opt out of the Advertising ID on Android (Settings → Google → Ads). GDPR consent can be updated through the consent options presented by UMP in supported regions.
