Sony Unveils Official PlayStation 27-inch 240Hz Monitor with DualSense Charging Hook

Sony revealed a new piece of official PlayStation hardware during its State of Play Japan showcase: a high-performance gaming monitor designed to complement the PlayStation 5 console and enhance the desktop gaming experience.

This new display is a 27-inch Quad HD (QHD) monitor, providing a crisp resolution of 2560 x 1440, an ideal size and resolution for a personal desktop gaming setup.

A key technical specification is the impressive 240Hz refresh rate, along with support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology, positioning it competitively within the premium gaming monitor market.

However, a crucial detail is the performance limitation when connected to a PS5 console; the refresh rate is capped at 120Hz, while the full 240Hz is accessible when connected to a compatible PC or Mac.

The monitor’s most distinctive and innovative feature is a built-in DualSense controller charging hook. This retractable mechanism folds down from the rear of the display, offering a convenient way to store and charge the wireless controller, ensuring it is always ready for immediate use.

This release follows the prior announcement of the Pulse Elevate portable desktop speakers in September, which are also designed for use across PC, Mac, PS5, and the PlayStation Portal, indicating a coordinated expansion of the PlayStation peripheral ecosystem.

The introduction of this monitor, alongside the new speakers and the recent update allowing a DualSense controller to pair with multiple devices, underscores Sony’s strategic effort to become a more significant player in the broader PC gaming market.

By making it easier to switch the DualSense controller connection between a PS5 and a PC, Sony is actively accommodating gamers who utilize both platforms and creating a unified experience across their hardware.

The monitor is scheduled to become available in the US and Japan sometime next year, broadening the options for players who prefer a dedicated desktop setup over a traditional living room television.

As of the announcement, Sony has not yet disclosed the official price for the 27-inch PlayStation gaming monitor, leaving the final assessment of its value proposition pending for consumers.
