Noctua NL-LC1: A Deep Dive into Acoustic Performance and Cooling Power

Noctua has introduced the NL-LC1 series, marking a long-awaited entry into the all-in-one liquid cooling market. The NL-LC1 lineup builds upon Asetek’s flagship Emma V2 platform. The specific model reviewed is the NL-LC1-36, which is a 360mm all-in-one liquid cooler. This unit is positioned within a range that also includes 240mm and 420mm variants.

The product distinguishes itself in the crowded AIO market through Noctua’s focus on acoustics and user experience refinement. Key components include the acclaimed NF-A12x25 G2 fans, complemented by the custom-engineered NL-PNA1 pump noise absorber. Installation is facilitated by Noctua’s reputation for ease of use and compatibility with its SecuFirm2+ mounting system.

Underlying the LC1 are advanced features from Asetek’s Emma V2 platform. These improvements include a redesigned pump featuring a closed impeller design, a high-torque three-phase motor, optimized flow paths, and a refined cold plate with a dense skived microfin array. These elements contribute to higher flow rates, greater pressure head, lower power consumption, and smoother operation compared to previous generations.

The package includes a 20 FPI radiator optimized for low-noise operation, braided EPDM tubing, a formulated coolant mixture, and comprehensive safety certifications. Furthermore, Noctua offers a six-year warranty, emphasizing durability and long-term stability.

Testing revealed the LC1 to be a highly refined cooling solution that excels in key areas. The acoustic performance was particularly noteworthy; even in Balanced operating mode, noise levels remained low at just 34–36 dBA. In this mode, the pump dynamically adjusts between approximately 1300 RPM and 2800 RPM, with the majority of the cooler’s noise output coming from the pump rather than the fans.

In terms of performance, the included trio of NF-A12x25 G2 fans is instrumental. These units provide exceptional airflow and static pressure without excessive noise. While not claiming the absolute top spot in thermal charts, the LC1 consistently performed near the front of the pack, demonstrating cooling capability that competes with other high-end 360mm AIOs.

The standout aspect is the successful combination of strong thermal performance and class-leading acoustics. This makes it one of the most well-rounded coolers tested. An optional upgrade option is the NL-ACF1 auxiliary cooling fan, useful for maintaining cool temperatures around motherboard power delivery and near-socket components.

The LC1 operates in the premium segment at a price point of $250 USD. Minor points raised include the suggestion that adhesive should be included in the installation bundle for Intel socket setup.
