Microsoft Edge and Copilot’s Design Overlap Signals Major UI Refresh in 2026

Microsoft Edge is slated for another major visual overhaul in 2026, with reports indicating its design will shift closer to that of Copilot. This change is expected to follow Microsoft’s recent reorganization, placing Edge under the Microsoft AI team, which also spearheaded Copilot’s design updates.

Sources suggest that Edge’s interface is adopting softer aesthetics, including rounded corners and iOS-like toggles, mirroring the look of Copilot itself. This stylistic trend has become a key ‘modern design’ move within the Windows 11 ecosystem.

Observations show that Edge’s existing rounded corners are becoming even softer and fuller than typical Windows 11 corners, which feature more defined curves at the edges. This new UI approach resembles a pill design, offering a continuous, softer look similar to Copilot’s interface.

The synchronization is attributed to Microsoft’s recent structure changes. Because the Copilot app ships with a private copy of Edge, and Edge now operates under the Microsoft AI team, the design convergence is becoming apparent.

Furthermore, Microsoft might be altering specific features. Edge previously utilized a unique design for its Picture-in-Picture window that employed Windows 11-like buttons for media playback controls. However, it appears Microsoft may replace this proprietary design with the version currently used in Google Chrome.
