The Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro builds on Huawei’s previous smartwatch, aiming to balance features of a fitness tracker, sports watch, and general smartwatch in a sleek design. It is positioned as an affordable smartwatch alternative to high-end models like the Apple Watch Ultra or Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra.
Huawei increased the display size for the Fit 5 Pro, moving from a 1.82-inch display to a larger 1.92-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 408. Despite the technical size increase, the change does not significantly impact the overall size for smaller wrists. The watch case measures 44.5mm and is constructed from aluminum, featuring a titanium bezel, although a ceramic version is also available for enhanced scratch protection.
Functionally, the device retains two physical buttons on the right side, including a twisting crown that allows users to scroll through menus and data without swiping the display. Significant updates focus on both fitness and overall health monitoring. Enhanced swimming support now offers extra insights into training load and recovery. Additionally, the watch supports dual-band GPS performance, free offline maps, and a broad range of supported sports.
Health tracking capabilities are robust, including continuous measurement of heart rate and SpO2 levels. The unit also features an onboard ECG sensor for checking signs of atrial fibrillation, and it monitors for signs of arterial stiffness. Users can use the optical heart rate sensor to analyze and detect arrhythmia.
In terms of performance, the watch introduced a high-silicon battery, primarily benefiting the battery life when using the onboard GPS. General battery life remains up to 10 days, though this reduces to 7 days when utilizing comprehensive health and fitness monitoring features, and down to 4 days when the screen is set to always-on.
The device offers new mini-workouts, which can be accessed through the courses and plans section or activated via a panda watch face. Beyond fitness, the watch includes a useful voice recorder feature and a variety of interactive watch faces, making it suitable for viewing detailed weather forecasts.
In terms of connectivity and features, the Pro carries both a 5ATM rating and complies with the EN13319 standard for diving accessories. This provides protection for activities such as swimming and recreational dives up to 40 meters, a feature rarely found on a smartwatch priced below £250. However, the Fit 5 Pro does not support LTE connectivity, and iPhone users cannot act on notifications or access the full Huawei AppGallery store for all applications.
